Birzebbuga Windmill: Malta’s First Football Nursery
It was March 1972, when the Birzebbuga Windmills and the Under 16 team was set up, with its first participation being in in a league organised by the RAF of the British Services. The Club mananged to place second. Afterwards, the club was involved in founding a number of other tournaments. This included those set up by the National Sports Board, followed by the Junior Football Association and the “ Under 15 Football Association.
In 1982, with the iniative of Fr Hilary, the Youth Football Association was set up, and Birzebbuga Windmills was a key player in founding the Association, which pushed for more nurseries to set up, leading to a more organised football.
The Birzebbuga Windmills Under 16 team, played aginst the Naxxar team in the first final games organised by the Youth Football Assocition. The Games was plaed in Ta Qali National Football Ground
Today, Windmills are provides training for children as young as 5 year olds, and participates in a vast array of football tournaments and festivals. In addition, the club organises other various sport and social events
The Nursery is committed to work towards developing our children in a sport oriented culture, with a strong character and love for the game.
