1 This cave was formed around two million years ago. Following the end of an Ice Age around 130,000 years ago, numerous bones of exotic animals including elephants and hippopotamus which were stranded in Malta, were transported by running water and deposited within. This process was repeated around 18,000 years ago when bones of bear, deer and wolf also ended up inside the cave. The earliest remains of Human presence in Malta were also discovered in Għar Dalam, dating to around 7,400 years ago. Għar Dalam was opened as a Museum in 1932.
